Derby. A city for all ages

Trading Standards Inspection Team

We inspect trading premises to ensure compliance with Trading Standards legislation. The frequency of visits is determined by nationally recognised risk analysis criteria. Inspection and testing is biased towards manufacturers, packers and importers based in the city.

Inspection offers an opportunity to advise traders on legislation and changes in the law that affect them. Officers also take samples to test for safety and composition, claims, descriptions and pricing. Trading Standards Officers (Weights and Measures Inspectors) test weighing and measuring equipment which is used for trade and carry out checks on goods sold by quantity.

Animal Health legislation requires attendance at the livestock market to ensure the proper treatment of animals and operation of disease control measures. Petroleum Licensing and associated inspection are major responsibilities. The team also controls the issue of Explosives Act registrations and Poisons Licences.
