How to become a Candidate


If you are interested in standing as a candidate at Derby City Council elections, there are certain criteria you must fulfil. You must be:
  • 18 years of age or over at the date of nomination
  • a British or commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland or a citizen of another European Union state
  • a local government elector within the city or
  • have worked in the area for the past twelve months or
  • have lived, or owned land/property in the area for the last twelve months

You can not stand as a candidate if you are disqualified from being elected by reason of any disqualification set out in section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972.

The next City Council Elections will be held on Thursday 1 May 2008. If you would like to receive a Candidates Pack which includes a nomination form please contact the Elections Office.
