Here is a list of events taking place in libraries across the city until December 2010.  There's something for everyone, so take a look.

Knit and natter meets weekly. Bring your knitting, crochet, sewing, embroidery, tatting or whatever you are working on. Free tea and coffee is provided and a staff member is available to offer what help they can. There will be a wide selection of books available for library members to borrow.

Tuesday 14 September 10.00am to 1.00pm: Job club

The job club is a self-help group, where job seekers offer each other support, information and advice. The library offers a place to meet that has free access to computers and the Internet, and books on job search skills. 

In this session, Natalie Taylor Herrick from Emplacement will be coming to speak to job seekers. Emplacement provides free career coaching and job search support to unemployed professionals and executives.

Thursday 16th September 7.30pm to 9.15pm: Meet thriller writer Steven Dunne

Meet Derby based thriller writer Steven Dunne and hear about his journey from self-publication to best seller status with his novel The Reaper. Steven will also be talking about his new thriller The Disciple and answering questions from the audience.

Come along to Chat & Craft at Allenton Library, our new monthly craft club. To launch the club there will be a card making workshop using the Iris Folding Technique. Bring along ideas or projects you are working on, materials will be provided. No experience is necessary, just relax and have fun. Wednesday 22nd September 7.30pm to 8.45pm: The Life and Work of Agatha Christie

To celebrate the 120 Year Anniversary of ‘The Queen of Crime,’ long-standing Agatha Christie fan John Martin will be guiding us through her life and work. Christie has sold over 2 billion books worldwide in a career spanning over half a century and is well known for her creations, Poirot and Miss Marple, amongst others and her play The Mousetrap, the world’s longest running play

John Martin is a regular speaker on crime fiction throughout the East Midlands and is a member of the judging panel for The Dagger in the Library award for the Crime Writer's Association.

Wednesday 13 October 7.00pm to 9.15pm: The Party Isn’t Over Yet- An evening with Wendy Cope

A fresh and entertaining poetry reading by the poet Radio 4’s 'Poetry Please' listeners voted their number one choice for Poet Laureate. Wendy will charm and amuse with her wry, ironic poetry. There will be a set of two readings followed by a question and answer session, the evening will finish with a book signing.
