The Local Authority determines the school term and holiday dates for community schools. Foundation and voluntary aided schools are recommended to adopt the same pattern of dates.
We have set the following school term dates for all Derby City community schools. These dates total 195 days each year and it is for schools to decide when to take their five in service training days (INSET days). Schools will inform parents about INSET dates for their school.
2007 / 2008
Autumn 2007
Monday 3 September to Friday 19 October
Monday 29 October to Friday 21 December
Teaching days 75
Spring 2008
Monday 7 January to Friday 15 February
Monday 25 February to Friday 4 April
Teaching days 58
Please note that, following consultation with school headteachers, school staff and governors, the unions and more widely with parents, Good Friday (21 March) and Easter Monday (24 March) fall within the spring term and not during the two-week holiday at the end of the spring term. This is in line with the Standard School Year dates recommended by the Local Government Association nationally. Good Friday and Easter Monday will therefore be taken as two bank holidays by schools and schools will be closed on these two days. Derbyshire County Council have adopted the same pattern for their schools.

Consultation on school term dates 2009/2010
The Local Government Association (LGA) encourage all Local Authorities to adopt the same pattern of dates to ensure a Standard School Year and to avoid problems for parents and school staff when neighbouring authorities set different dates.
We are consulting on the LGA proposal for the school term dates for 2009/10. We have also had discussions with Derbyshire County Council and it is likely that they will also adopt a similar model.

The Summer term 2009 ends on 22 July 2009, so the Summer holiday would be 6 weeks exactly
