Derby. A city for all ages

Safety at sports grounds

As a unitary authority Derby City Council, Building Consultancy has, since 1 April 1997, been responsible for issuing safety certificates for sports grounds under the Safety at Sports Grounds Act 1975 and the Fire Safety and Safety at Places of Sport Act 1987.

In Derby, this involves Pride Park Stadium and a 'regulated stand' at Moorways under the 1987 Act.

Before1997, Derbyshire County Council carried out the work involved in the administration of these Acts consulting Derby City Council as the 'building authority' when necessary.

The Building Consultancy carries out a programme of continuous inspection and monitoring of the sports grounds to make sure the terms and conditions of the safety certificates are complied with. In addition we also issue any amendment or renewal certificates
