Derby. A city for all ages

Cathedral Green improvements

Improvements to Cathedral Green, including new paving, terracing, seating, lighting and planting, will create a contemporary, high quality, vibrant and safe public space that will provide a setting for people to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The space will also be used for a wide variety of events and gatherings.

The new design of Cathedral Green will enhance the settings of the Cathedral and the Silk Mill, Derby’s Museum of Industry and History, while retaining its importance as a green space in the city centre.

The improvements will open up views to the river from Full Street, whilst new footpaths will provide better access across the site.

The statue of Bonnie Price Charlie will be realigned so that the Prince is gazing out across the river.

There will also be a new footbridge across the river to link the Green to the business and residential developments on Stuart Street

The improvement project has come about as a result of consultation carried out through Derby Cityscape’s Public Realm Strategy in Autumn 2006, and funding for the £3.8m project comes from Derby City Council, central government and the Derby and Derbyshire Economic Partnership.
