Pest Control in Domestic Properties

We provide a free service to treat for rats in domestic properties. We also provide an affordable chargeable service for all other major pest species. For details on charges please use the link to the Fees and Charges page.
To book a visit please contact Derby Direct on 01332 255260. You will be asked for details of your problem and will be given a day for the visit to be made. You may be asked to carry out some simple preparations before the visit is made. Payment is required at the time of the first visit. The Technician attending will carry out a risk assessment and advise you on any treatment to be carried out. A pesticide data sheet will be left with you detailing the materials used at your property.
We can also respond to e-mail requests for advice at pest.control@derby.gov.uk

We do not provide a service in domestic premises for:

  • Mice outside

  • Pigeons and other birds.

  • Ants – suitable products for treatment for ants by the occupier are available at most hardware/DIY stores. Please remember to follow the instructions on using pesticides safely. An advice sheet is available on request or to download from the links at the foot of this page.

  • Foxes – an advice sheet is available on request or to download from the links at the foot of this page.

  • Bees – we are unable to provide treatment for bees unless in exceptional circumstances. In the case of a bee swarm the most appropriate method of control is the safe removal of the swarm to a hive by an experienced beekeeper. The City Council does not provide this service, but can provide contact details for a local beekeeper, although no responsibility will be accepted by the City Council for the service provided. An advice sheet is available on request or to download from the links at the foot of this page.

  • Houseflies.

  • Wood Boring Insects – advice should be sought from a company specialising in the treatment of these insects.

  • Woodlice, Silverfish, Spiders and other non-pest species that may find their way into homes accidentally.

For general information on the following pest species, please use the links below. Please note that the contact telephone number on these fact sheets is incorrect. The sheets are currently being updated. Please use 01332 255260.
