Derby and Derbyshire Waste Local Plan

Raynesway recycling site

Derby City Council and Derbyshire County Council adopted a Waste Local Plan in March 2005. This Plan will guide the decisions on any planning applications for developments associated with the management of the waste we produce.

The Local Plan includes policies on development associated with recycling (such as recycling units), reuse of waste (such as neighbourhood composting areas) and disposal of waste (including landfill and incinerators).

It will complement the County Waste Management Strategy of 1999 Adobe pdf icon167Kb and the three Area Waste Management Strategies for the different parts of the County.

The adopted Waste Local Plan for Derby and Derbyshire Globe icon can be viewed on the County Council's website.

Or you can view the Plan at our offices in Roman House, or at the County Council's offices in Matlock.

The Plan can be purchased from the County Council.

Waste Sites Allocations Development Plan Document

We have now started work on a joint Waste Sites Allocations Development Plan Document. This will set out where developments associated with dealing with waste may be acceptable in Derby and Derbyshire (outside the Peak District) upto 2020.

The Scoping Report for the Sustainability Appraisal of the document Globe icon may be viewed on the County Council's web site.

Through 2006, we asked people's views on a range of sites in the city and county, which could be used to build waste management facilities.  We looked at what people said about these sites.

We then prepared the preferred option report of the Development Plan Document.

The preferred options report contained sites (with maps and description) for locations which may be suitable for larger developments associated with waste management. It also contained draft policies for developments associated with waste management developments, which would compliment those in the adopted Waste Local Plan.

The documents, including their sustainability appraisal, may be downloaded from the Derbyshire County Council website,Globe icon viewed at the Council Offices on Friar Gate, or obtained by phoning Call Derbyshire on 08456 058058.

We consulted on these proposals last autumn.

We are now considering the comments made. These comments will help us in the preparation of the document the City and County hope to consult on and then submit to the Government later this year.
