All the documents that make up our Local Development Framework need to be based on evidence and an understanding of the key social, economic and environmental characteristics that make up Derby.
The evidence base we require for each development plan document or supplementary planning document will depend on the subject and complexity of each plan. For example, the Core Strategy will require a larger amount of evidence than less complex area specific documents.
Our efforts are currently concentrating on gathering evidence for the Core Strategy. However, the evidence to support the Core Strategy can also be used to support other development plan document or supplementary planning documents. Our evidence base falls broadly into two types, area based evidence, such as the data set out in Appendix 2
- 148Kb of the SA Scoping Report
- 2mb and topic based studies, such as those described below.
Other work we undertake which also forms part of the evidence base, is work on our Annual Monitoring Report and 5 year land supply. Further information on these can be found by using this link to the web page.
Set out below is a list of the evidence base elements we are working on showing the stage reached for each piece of work. Copies of completed studies are available to download below, where available.

Derby's Open Space Study
Consultants have recently started this study which will look at the amount and quality of green spaces in the city, ranging from our city parks to allotments and play areas. It will help us identify any surpluses and deficits in the amount of open space we have and identify priorities for new and improved open space. It will also help review our standards for protecting existing open space. More information can be found by using this link
6Cs Strategic Green Infrastructure Study
A partnership of local authorities and environmental organisations from across Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire called the 6Cs Strategic Green Infrastructure Project Board has commissioned consultants to develop a long term vision and strategic framework for delivery of green infrastructure across the 6Cs Growth Point. The strategy will aim to protect, enhance and extend networks of green spaces and natural elements in and around the cities of Derby, Leicester and Nottingham, connecting with their surrounding towns and villages. The study, which will develop at Green Infrastructure masterplan for Derby is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2010.
Further information on this study can be found on the East Midlands Green Infrastructure Network website – www.emgin.co.uk/6cs
