The Regional Spatial Strategy for the East Midlands is approved by the Secretary of State in consultation with the East Midlands Regional Assembly and other regional stakeholders.

The current Regional Spatial Strategy (RRS8) was approved by the Secretary of State in March 2005. It provides a comprehensive spatial strategy for the East Midlands Region to guide the future distribution of activities such as house building, business development and sport and leisure related developments.

RRS8 can be viewed on the Government Office for the East Midlands web site external link icon.

The approved RSS is currently under review and the Regional Assembly published the Draft East Midlands Regional Plan for 12 weeks public consultation, which started on the 28 September 2006 and ended on the 20 December 2006. The Examination in Public is due to start in May 2007. The link below will take you to the RRS review documents page on EMRA's website from which the draft consultation document can be viewed.

The East Midlands Regional Assembly is required to monitor and review the Regional Planning Guidance. An Annual Monitoring Statement is therefore prepared, drawing on data that is collected from a number of sources including local planning authorities. You can see the latest Annual Monitoring Report on the Regional Assembly's web site external link icon.
