Extension of Darley Abbey Conservation Area Boundary

Map showing conservation area boundary

The Darley Abbey Conservation Area was extended in December 2002 to encompass the surviving extent and setting of the Evans family inheritance in Darley Abbey.

The extension includes:

  • the former allotments to the houses of Upper Mile Ash Lane and Lavender Row

  • St Matthew's Church and churchyard

  • Darley Park

  • the river bank opposite the former Boar's Head Cotton Mills

  • Folly Houses and the river bank opposite Darley Park.

This follows the:

  • drafting of an Appraisal of the Darley Abbey Conservation Area, and consultation on the draft, during 2001

  • inscription of the industrial village of Darley Abbey, together with Darley Park, as part of The Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site  in December 2001.
