The Derby Townscape Heritage Initiative - THI - scheme was launched in March 2002 as a partnership scheme, funded by Derby City Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund. The THI has given grants towards the repair, restoration and reuse of historic buildings in a specific area of Derby city centre.
An action plan was drawn up as part of the Council's bid for the scheme. This identified 19 properties in Derby as target properties - priorities for receiving THI grant aid. These buildings were targeted because of their need for repair, their importance to the appearance of the area and their potential for initiating regeneration. Owners of these buildings have responded positively to the scheme and the THI has succeeded in providing grant aid for building repairs and really starting to tackle some of the problem properties in the city centre.
The THI has awarded substantial grants to nine properties, and has contributed towards improvements to the city centre paving works as part of the Connecting Derby project.
All the THI funds have now been committed.
