Our role is to identify, monitor, reduce and prevent pollution of the environment as well as to protect the health of residents who live and work in the City of Derby. We facilitate improvements in air quality, inspect and authorise industrial processes, assess potentially contaminated sites and provide advice and information on environmental protection issues. We investigate complaints of nuisance and take enforcement action when necessary.

- Taking action to improve quality in Air Quality Management Areas.
- Inspecting and authorising industrial processes prescribed for local authority control under Part I of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Pollution Prevention and Control (England and Wales) Regulations 2000.

- Providing advice on the pollution aspects of Planning Applications and Environmental Impact Assessments
- Investigating complaints about air pollution, noise and land contamination
- Abating statutory nuisances following investigation
- Providing advice on the noise implications of Public Entertainment Licence applications.
