Bulky Waste Collection
If you have a large item such as a piece of furniture or items classed as "white goods" such as a washing machine, we offer a collection service. The service is chargeable depending on the number of items collected. We will collect a maximum of 15 household items.
We will collect items like beds, 3 piece suites (classed as one item), washing machines, Fridges are freezers and other similar items we will only collect items that you would take with you if you moved home. We cannot collect material generated by renovations, DIY or other building work.
Collections are by appointment only. You can request the service by contacting Derby Direct on 0333 200 6981. We will give you a collection date which will be secured upon receipt of your payment.
How much will it cost?
The service is chargeable depending on the number of items.
- 1 item £10.50
- 2-5 items £16.00
- 6-15 items £23.00
Fridges, Freezers and Fridge/Freezers are currently collected free of charge, but again you must book this in with us on 0333 200 6981.
To make colelctions easier for you the following items are classed as one item:
- A table and four chairs
- A three piece suite
- Four black sacks.
We cannot collect more than 15 items as part of this service.
If you have more than 15 items you can contact Derby City Council Commercial Services on 01332 641500 who will give you a quote for removal. There is a minimum charge of £30.00 for this service.
How do I pay?
Collection of bulky items can be paid by cash, cheque, postal order or debit/credit card.
By Post

When making a request for collection we need the following details:
- Your name, address and postcode and daytime contactable phone number.
- The address for the collection (with directions/landmarks if not easily found).
- An exact list of items to be collected and their location (for example front, side of back of property)
Conditions
- We cannot specify an exact time but the items should be available for collection by 6.30 am.
- The items must be together at one point at the front, side or back of house.
- Smaller items must be contained in sacks or boxes.
- Any items not listed will not be collected.
- Collections may be made by different vehicles to increase the amount we recycle
When do you collect?

If I don't want the Council to collect larger items what can I do?
You can take your larger household items to Raynesway Recycling Centre. Raynesway can only accept Domestic Waste and Garden Waste. Please see the link to find out more information.
A number of organisations also exist to recycle and reuse furniture.

What we won't collect:
- loose domestic waste
- gas bottles
- sheds, fence panels and greenhouses
- concrete, rubble, soil and general builders' waste
- doors, gates and windows and window frames
- motor vehicle parts
- asbestos
- fluid containers, eg: drums, storage heaters
- bathroom, kitchen and other fitted units.
- Carpets
