If you have a large item such as a piece of furniture or items classed as "white goods" such as a washing machine, we offer a collection service. The service is chargeable depending on the number of items collected
We will collect a maximum of 15 household items such as carpets, beds, 3 piece suites (classed as one item), washing machines, Fridges are freezers and other similar items that you would take with you were you to move house. Collections are by appointment only. You can request the service by contacting Derby Direct on 255256. We will give you a collection date which will be secured upon receipt of your payment
What we won't collect
- loose domestic waste
- gas bottles
- sheds, fence panels and greenhouses
- concrete, rubble, soil and general builders' waste
- doors, gates and windows and window frames
- motor vehicle parts
- asbestos
- fluid containers, eg: drums, storage heaters
- bathroom, kitchen and other fitted units
How can I request this service?
How much will it cost and how do I pay?
- 1 item £9.50
- 2-5 items £14.50
- 6-15 items £21.00
- Fridges, Freezers and Fridge/Freezers are currently collected free of charge
- The Council will also collect smaller household items which have been placed in plastic sacks, four sacks being counted as one item, and charged at the above rates (eg: 4 sacks = 1 item - £9.50 etc).
If you have more than 15 items contact the City Council's Commercial Services Department (Tel No: 01332 716500). There is a minimum charge of £25.00 for this service.
Collection of bulky items can be paid by cash, cheque, postal order or debit/credit card.

Debit and Credit card payments can be made using our Online Payments Service, which is secure and quick and easy to use.

Debit/credit card payments can be made over the phone through Derby Direct 255256.
When making a request for collection we need the following details
- Your name, address and postcode and daytime contactable phone number.
- The address for the collection (with directions/landmarks if not easily found).
- An exact list of items to be collected and their location (eg: front, side of back of property)
Conditions
- We cannot specify an exact time but the items should be available for collection by 6.30 am.
- The items must be together at one point at the front, side or back of house.
- Smaller items must be contained in sacks or boxes.
- Any items not listed will not be collected.
- Collections may be made by different vehicles to increase the amount we recycle

If I don't want the Council to collect larger items what can I do?
You can take your larger household items to Raynesway Recycling Centre. Raynesway can only accept Domestic Waste and Garden Waste . Please see the link to find out more information.
