Needles, syringes and other drug related items are being increasingly discarded in the environment.
If you find a needle or syringe contact us on 01332 255256. Or enter the details using our online form.
Whatever you do, please do not :
- touch it
- ignore it
- let your pets come into contact with it
- hide it
- kick it down a drain
- put it in a dustbin, litter bin, or down a toilet
Only if you feel the needle/syringe poses an immediate danger to others. For example, if it was found near a school or nursery, and you feel that it should be contained until it is collected should you deal with it yourself. Then:
- find a suitable container, such as a metal drinks can or plastic bottle
- take the container to the needle or syringe
- handle the needle/syringe carefully, avoiding the needle - ideally this should be done with tongs, tweezers or heavy duty gloves
- put the sharp end in the container first and then wash your hands thoroughly
- keep the container somewhere safe until the syringe is collected
If at any time the skin is broken seek immediately medical advice.
