Introduction
Skillport is a life coaching and support service for disabled people living in Derby. Life Skills Advisors work alongside disabled people to identify their personal aspirations and life goals and how they can achieve them.
The main aim of the project is to improve disabled people's access to learning, personal development and employment opportunities.
What Skillport Provides
Skillport provides disabled people with ongoing support, information and guidance on:
- personal development
- confidence building
- motivation
- computer skills
- community based learning
- training opportunities
- employment
- business skills
- work experience and voluntary work
- opportunities to gain qualifications
The Life Skills Advisers
The Life Skills Advisers can offer you:
- life skills coaching and ongoing personal support throughout the process
- support and information to tackle barriers or difficulties in accessing community resources and services
- one to one support to find you suitable services to help you achieve your goals
- guidance through the maze of service providers and "red tape"
The Life Skills Advisers have a range of knowledge and experience of the services available and their providers. They can provide you with information about:
- local education
- paid and voluntary work and employment support
- support and funding available
- specialist advice, such as welfare benefits and disability rights
Who Can Use the Service?
Referrals are welcome from Derby residents.
The service is primarily aimed at people who have a physical and/or sensory impairment.
