People with Mental Health Needs
Many people experience problems resulting from their mental health. They may be depressed, anxious or under stress. Often, all that is needed is the help and understanding of family and friends. However, sometimes life can become very much more difficult to cope with. Then more help may be needed.
We will help you live independently in your own home for as long as possible. We understand your difficulties and have developed our services to meet your needs.
Because resources are limited, we try to make sure we act fairly to help those in greatest need. We do this by carefully assessing each person’s circumstances then, together, we can decide whether we can offer help. If so, we agree what services are needed and how quickly we can provide them.
Social care services work in partnership with the National Health Service to provide:
-
information and advice
-
a community support service to help you look after yourself at home
-
drop-in and day-time activities
-
a range of group activities
-
an out-of-hours helpline and support service to help you at times of crisis
-
a break for you or someone who looks after you
-
a range of accommodation choices from supported lodgings to residential and nursing care
-
information about other services for you or someone who looks after you
-
advice to make sure you receive all the benefits to which you are entitled.
-
The services that we offer you may be available as a cash alternative. This is called a Direct Payment. You can use this money to be in control of your own services. Talk to your worker or contact Social Services for more information.
Services for Carers
Sometimes caring for someone can be very demanding. We may be able to help by providing advice and information, special equipment or short breaks.
Costs
There is no charge for information and advice or for working out what you need, but there may be a charge for some other services. We will explain fully what, if anything, you will have to pay for a particular service.
For some services, we may do a financial assessment to see how much you have to pay.
Getting in Touch with Social Services
Contact people at your local office if you need support and help. They will do their best to meet your needs within their resources or you can ask a friend, relative or someone else you know to contact us, if you prefer. If we cannot help, we will tell you of any other organisations which might be able to.
