Leaving Care Service - Aspire

Eligibility

If you have been looked after by Derby Social Services for 13 weeks since you were 14 years old and are still in care after 16 years, then you are entitled to a service from Aspire when you leave. This helps continues until you are 21 years old, up to 24 years, if you decide to go to University.

How we can help

There are many opportunities for you in the community, but living independently is not easy. Where do you go to for advice? What do you need to know? Leaving care is an important time in your life; you will have the freedom and responsibility to choose many things for yourself. To make choices you need information about options you have and who can help you make decisions.

At Aspire you will have a personnal advisor who can:

  • Offer help with accessing training, college, work.
  • Find suitable accommodation and help you decorate and furnish this.
  • Help you with practical issues, paying bills, shopping, cooking.
  • Link you to the agencies and organisations who may be helpful to you.
  • Be there for a coffee and a chat.
  • Agree a plan to work with you that ensures we give you the service you need.
  • Provide financial help to support you with college or work where this can't be claimed elsewhere.

When is Aspire open?

Staff do work at weekends and during the evenings but are not always in the building. If you leave a message someone will get back to you.
