What is the Derby City Care Line?

Care Line is the out of hours emergency social work service for people living in or visiting Derby.

What does Care Line do?

Care Line provides emergency Social Work help to people in crisis outside normal opening times to:

• Children and families
• Older people
• People with mental health problems
• People with disabilities
• Homeless people
• People who are subject to domestic violence
• Other vulnerable young people and adults

How do we do it?

A qualified social worker will deal with your call. However, if the Social Worker is busy, you can leave an answerphone message and they will ring you back as soon as possible.

Most of our work is done over the telephone, but depending on what the problem is, we may also need to visit you.

If the Social Worker is out, incoming calls will be diverted to a message taking service. Your message will be passed to the Social Worker as soon as they return.

We aim to work in partnership with the people we provide a service to, and also with other agencies, such as Health, the Police ans so on, to deal with your problems and make situations safe.

Sometimes daytime staff will need to become involved to follow up on a problem which has been dealt with by Care Line at night or at the weekend. We will ensure that accurate information is passed through to them giving details of what has happened.

Unlike daytime services we are not able to offer office appointments to see you.
