Derby has a thriving literature scene featuring a host of year-round events as well as the bi-annual Festival of Words and the annual Alt.Fiction day. Derby also has a wide range of writing groups runnning around the city, offering support and advice to prospective writers in the area.

There is also a monthly Live Words email bulletin, giving details of all the upcoming events as well as competitions and job opportunities in the region and beyond. Festival of Words 2007

The Festival is nearing the end of its planning stage and we're delighted to announce several great performance throughout the Festival period including John Hegley, Ian McMillan, Sarah Dunant and many more.

Alt.Fiction 2008

Alt.Fiction will be moving into its third year with another fantastic day of readings, workshops and discussions in the fields of science fiction, fantasy and horror. Authors confirmed so far include Mike Carey, Christopher Fowler, Charlie Stross and many more...
