The Access Services Resource Centre
We are aiming to make our library services accessible to as many people as possible. We already have facilities which make our libraries easier for people with disabilities to use and we are working on further improvements.
All of our libraries have level or ramped access.
Visually impaired people
All of our static libraries have:
- Books in large print
- Books on tape. Some of our libraries also have books on CD. There is no charge to borrow them if you are visually-impaired.
- Zoomtext Xtra screen magnification software, 19 inch monitor and high visibility keyboard.
Hearing impaired people
All of our libraries have induction loops at the counters
The Learn@Your Library suite at the Central Library and the meeting rooms at Sinfin and Alvaston libraries have induction loops
The Central Library has a Minicom. The number is 01332 380712. Blagreaves Library and Chaddesden Library also have Minicoms. The number is the same as their phone number.
The Central Library has British Sign Language videos. There is no charge to borrow them if you are hearing-impaired
The Central Library has a special collection of material for Deaf and hearing-impaired people. Look for the section called 'Information for Deaf people'.
