Chatterbooks clubs are for eight to 13 year olds and meet once a month at Allestree, Mickleover, Central, Spondon and Chaddesden libraries. The clubs aim to inspire young people to read adventurously, develop confidence in expressing their opinions, and have fun sharing in book-related activities. Every Chatterbooks reading group member receives an exciting range of goodies to keep, presented in a special backpack. These include a reading diary, a bookmark, stickers and a fortune-teller game to see what kind of reader they are.
Chatterbooks clubs are a national initiative, organised by the Reading Agency and part of the Orange Prize For Fiction educational initiative, which is establishing a national network of children's reading groups as part of Orange's community involvement programme, Orange Community Futures. Anyone interested in joining should contact individual libraries, or simply go along to a session.
