Derby. A city for all ages

Library Visits

Visits to libraries can be arranged for:

  • Schools
  • Nurseries
  • Playgroups
  • Family Learning Groups
  • Out of school groups such as Brownies, Scouts or after-school clubs

If you are not able to bring your class or group to the library, a Children's Librarian may be able to visit you.

During your visit we will:

  • Introduce children to the library service
  • Encourage children to join and use the library
  • Introduce children to books and encourage them to read
  • Inform children about events and activities in libraries
  • Ask the children about their reading and information preferences and needs

A storytime may be included, if appropriate.  We do not tailor visits specifically to the school curriculum.

Prior booking of visits is required; all requests will be considered but we cannot guarantee a visit at a particular time.

Teachers or group organisers should contact their local library or the Children's Services Resource Centre:

Phone  01332 255411

Minicom  01332 380712 (Minicom)

e-mail  childrens.services@derby.gov.uk

Requests will be passed on to the appropriate Children's Librarian or Bookstart Project Officer.

The information required for each visit is:

  • Which library you wish to visit
  • Name of school or organisation
  • Contact name and phone number
  • Purpose of the visit
  • Preferred date and time of visit
  • Alternative dates/times
  • Age of the children
  • Number of children
  • Whether any of the children have particular needs

The Children's Librarian or Bookstart Officer will contact you to confirm the details.
