Derby City Libraries offer learning opportunities in library venues. These may be run by library staff or in partnership with other learning providers.
Free courses - learn how to use the Internet and email
Would you like to learn to use the Internet and email, or do you know some one who would? New free courses are available to help learners discover the many benefits of getting online. These courses are for absolute beginners or people who are finding the Internet difficult. Whatever your age and background, you can learn how to find information online, send emails, save money and much more, while gaining confidence in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
New for 2010 - our free courses now include public services online and learning for job seekers. Using a resource called 'Online jobs' learners can gain the skills they need to use the Internet to find and apply for a job, and to understand how to succeed at interview.

Online learning
You can learn flexibly and in your own time by undertaking an online course. The following selection of online courses are available for you to try out:
Citizenship
Derby City Libraries offers the citizenship course and mock tests. The computer based learning package guides you through the course with example questions at each stage. You can then test your knowledge about citizenship by having a go at the full mock test. For more information contact your nearest library.
Computer skills
- Myguide
You can register with the Myguide website to access free email and free courses. For help, ask at your library or telephone 01332 255307.
- Computer Tutor
Computer Tutor shows you how to use a mouse, keyboard and computers. You can also learn about the Internet and e-mail.
- Touch Typing
A structured touch typing course is available for individuals looking to develop their keyboard skills.
