Learning Opportunities

Derby City Libraries offer learning opportunities in library venues. These may be in partnership with other learning providers or run by library staff.

Internet Taster Sessions at Derby City Libraries

We offer Internet Taster sessions free of charge at all Derby City libraries. For details ask at your library or phone 01332 255307.

UK Online Internet and Email Taster Sessions

We offer Internet and Email Taster sessions for people who would like to gain confidence in a friendly and supportive environment. We are currently offering taster sessions for the following groups of people:

  • Over 50s
  • Job-seekers
  • People from black and ethnic minority communities
  • People who are new to the UK.

Funded by UK Online, each taster session lasts three hours and is suitable for beginners or people wishing to brush up their skills. During the session learners gain mouse and keyboard skills, and visit websites to find useful government, health and consumer information. Learners also set themselves up with an email address and practise sending and receiving emails. There are follow-on opportunities to do a skills assessment and find out about further learning.
Our taster sessions are welcoming and informal, include a refreshments break and are free of charge. To book a place phone 01332 255307.

The sessions are held at the following libraries:
