National Year of Reading 2008

Derby City Libraries invites you to join in the celebrations for the 2008 National Year of Reading. Whether you’re searching for a great story to share with your children or want to come along to one of our events from murder mystery nights to meditation classes we have opportunities, events, advice and books to share with you.

How can you get involved?
• Share a bedtime story with your children- make reading as much a part of their life as brushing their teeth. All of our libraries run children’s storytimes so you can share the experience.
• Visit your local library and find out what kind of reading suits you, staff are on hand to offer advice whether you’re searching for a car manual or the latest best seller.
• Brush up on your reading skills with a quick read or an adult education class, ask in your local library for details.
• Join a reading group or if there isn’t one in your area we can help you start one.
• Organise a book swap or reading group in your workplace.

We’ll be celebrating reading in all its forms, novels, song lyrics, poetry, instruction manuals, newspapers and much, much more. From April to December we’ll be using a different theme to highlight the range of different reading available.

You can also join in the fun of reading at Westfield Derby. The centre is delighted to be supporting The National Year of Reading in conjunction with Harper Collins.

They are running a host of activities as part of our three week promotion starting from Monday 26 May – Sunday 15 June, including a book swap, story telling sessions from Derby City Libraries, becoming a designated area for BookCrossing and having a selection of signed books up for grabs!
