Libraries promote advice for carers

From September to December Derby City Libraries are promoting information and advice for carers.  In Brtain there are six million unpaid carers.  In libraries across the city there will be drop in information and advice sessions from the Derbyshire Carers Association on all aspects of caring.  There will also be displays by and information available on how to become a foster carer from Derby City Council's Fostering and Adoption Service.  Derby currently looks after 410 children, has 185 foster carers and urgently needs more foster carers to look after children of all ages and from all backgrounds.  Each library will have books to borrow and lealfets to take away.

Derby's Treasure Trove - a look at some of our records

Derby Local Studies Library holds a vast amount of material that tells us about the past life of Derbeians.

Each week we will look at a different range of materials and themes as we explore the library's collection of material; from 18th century newpapers to 21st century plans; from engravings to modern photographs; maps that span the centuries; records of the rich and famous and those of the poor and destitute.

Navigating Ancestry.com – library edition
Ancestry.com is a fantastic online resource, usually available by subscription only, but free to access on the Public PCs at Derby Local Studies Library.

Learn some neat tips and tricks on this course, with search techniques that will help you find that elusive ancestor. A taught session is backed up with a series of exercises, plus a session to further your own research with the support of our trained genealogist.
