Installation by Hazel Green

14 June 2008 - 7 September 2008

Hazel’s work with birds references burial sites from several different cultures. The birds are elevated from an everyday standing to something quite extraordinary and rare by wrapping them individually in cloth soaked in clay slip and then fired. The bird is burned out during firing leaving a physical evidence of its existence.  As a result of these processes the birds are earthbound in a form that acts as a tracery or reminder of a previous existence, once superfluous, which has now become valuable.
