History

The recreation ground was once part of the Allestree estate, but was given to the Parish Council early in the 20th century and eventually passed to the City in 1968. The park was donated to the city by the Evans family, of the Darley Abbey cotton-spinning dynasty. Lying north east of the recreational ground is evidence of the family dynasty with the naming of the road: Evans Avenue.
