
The Derby City Council and Ram FM Bonfire and Fireworks display took place at
Markeaton Park on Saturday 3 November 2007. The event was, and always is, free.
- 5pm - Ram FM roadshow
- 6.45pm - Lighting of the bonfire
- 7pm - Firework display
There was a funfair on the Markeaton Park main car park with hot food and a bar.
Car parking was available at the University of Derby, Kedleston Road. The cost was £3 per car.
Safety
In the interests of safety, you were not allowed to bring fireworks or sparklers into the park and were requested to leave pets at home.You may wish to visit the Fireworks safety page.
Getting to the park
Access to Markeaton Park for the Bonfire and Fireworks Display was restricted for safety reasons.
The main entrance to the park, off the A38, was open for pedestrians. However, there was no pedestrian access through the Mundy Play Centre, or across any of the three bridges into the park.
The main entrance to the Mundy Play Centre was also closed, and the Mundy Play Centre car park off Markeaton Lane closed at 4.30pm. Anyone who parked in this car park to use the park during the day should of ensured that their vehicle was moved by 4.30pm. Signs in the car park on the day reminded people of this.
Markeaton Lane was closed to all vehicles between 4pm and 10pm, to allow safe access for pedestrians. The Police controled the road closure.
Pedestrians coming from The University of Derby car park were directed across the pedestrian crossing on Kedleston Road and accessed the park from Queensway next to the footbridge over the A38. Pedestrians coming along Kedleston Road from the city centre were also be directed via Queensway.
Pedestrians from the Quarndon/Allestree areas were directed down Markeaton Lane into the rear entrance to the park.
Car parking was available at the University of Derby on Kedleston Road for £3 per car.
Orange /blue badge holders were able to park on Markeaton Park, and access the car park from the main entrance on Ashbourne Road.
