Darley Park Concert 2007

Timetable of eventsConcert audience and stage

  • The 2007 Darley Park Concert was a one-day event on Sunday 2 September
  • Pre-concert entertainment started at 5.40pm
  • The concert itself started at 6.30pm and ended at around 9pm. Interval 7.25-7.55pm
  • The fireworks began at around 8.30pm

Pre-show entertainments was from Indonsakusa, a traditional South African five-strong male voice group, to commemorate the bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade.

The orchestral programme was as follows:

  • Grainger: Handel in the Strand
  • Sherwin: Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square
  • Ketleby: 'appy 'ampstead
  • Elgar: Salut d'Amour
  • Stanford: The Old Superb
  • Gilbert and Sullivan: Pinafore Overture
  • Gilbert and Sullivan: Modern Major General
  • Coates: Knightsbridge March
  • Williams: Devil's Gallop
  • Bynge: Elizabethan Serenade
  • Wood: Horseguards
  • Arnold: English Dance
  • Coates: Calling all Workers
  • Lionel Bart: From Russia with Love
  • Calloway: Minnie the Moocher
  • Elgar: Pomp and Circumstance March No.4

Charges

  • The concert was free
  • There was a free programme available on the night, from the Lost Persons marquee to the left of the stage.

Disabled access

The disabled toilets were situated to the left and right as you looked at the stage, next to the ambulances

 

The following information was provide to potential attendees of the event

  • the R61, R62, R71, R64 and Transpeak bus services go along the A6 Duffield Road, past the top of the park, from Derby Bus Station. For times, please call Traveline on 0870 608 2 608
  • You can't sit in your car and see the concert
  • please do not bring fireworks or open flares/candles to the concert
  • the police are the people to speak to about traffic management measures in Darley Abbey village. Contact Millie Taylor at Derby Police Headquarters on 01332 613039
  • There may be off-site car parking at St Benedict's School on Duffield Road. This also costs £5 per car
  • For information on trade/charity stands you can send an email to barbara.whieldon@derby.gov.uk, the Events Manager, or call her on 01332 715608
  • young children are welcomed at the concert, but please be aware that the fireworks are very loud and go on for quite some time
  • you can take picnics to the park, but no barbecues please, due to fire risks
  • please do not bring flare candles, or open flames Firework display
  • please don't bring animals to the park, as the fireworks can scare them
  • we advise people to bring a torch as it will be dark by the time the concert ends
  • there will be a free bike park to the left of the stage, which is stewarded by Derby Cycling Group and is free
  • the stage is at the bottom of the park, facing the hill
  • please wear sensible footwear, as the park is undulating
  • we recommend warm clothing for later in the evening, and a blanket to sit on
  • chairs are not supplied - please bring your own
  • the Lost Persons marquee is to the left of the stage
  • the children's inflatables are at the village end of the park
  • there are food stands and a bar on the park
  • we will be handing plastic sacks out on the day, for food and other waste, and for recyclabes
  • please do not bring gazebos or tents to the park as they obscure others' view.
