The national collection comprises of 110 varieties of Hydrangea, which are located in Darley Park. The collection was started here in 1984, to help save plants that were in danger of extinction. A donation of 140 new cultivars has recently been received from Tressilick gardens in Cornwall. The majority of the plants are cultivated in the glasshouse at Markeaton Park and are then moved to the collection at Darley Park once they have matured.
