Conservation

Oakwood ParkOakwood Park has designated areas set aside to encourage wildflower for insects and native deciduous trees have been planted around the perimeter of the park creating ideal habitats for birds and animals alike. A gravel pathway has been provided as a thoroughfare of the park to give improved access in wet conditions and reduce the trampling of grasses and shrubs.

Oakwood Park is the southern most tip of the Oakwood Green Wedge. (A green wedge is an area of open land, which links the countryside and the urban area, maintains the identities of separate areas and reduces the impression of urban sprawl). Also included in the Green Wedge is Chaddesden Wood. This site is important as it is the only large area of woodland containing a high proportion of native broad-leaved trees in the city. The site was dedicated as a Local Nature Reserve in 1991.
