There are 59 sites owned by the Council which are all inspected by the ranger service. They offer a variety of play equipment for different age groups. Most of our neighbourhood parks have small play areas for younger children, with equipment such as swings and see-saws, whilst our bigger city parks offer a wide range of activities and equipment for all ages from toddlers to teenagers.
There are also an additional 19 sites in the city which belong to Derby Homes. All of them are also inspected by the Councils ranger service.

Health and safety
We visit our play areas every day to check for unsafe or damaged equipment, graffiti and to pick up litter. If we can't mend unsafe or damaged equipment immediately we will put it out of use until we can fix it, which we will do as soon as possible. If you find a piece of equipment that has been damaged or which you think is unsafe, please report this to the Park Rangers; telephone 01332 367800
Types of Equipment
The majority of the play areas include the following types of equipment -
For the younger children there are enclosed swings, roundabouts and small sides. These facilities are on nearly all our parks. Some larger parks have an enclosed adventure playground, like the one you can find at Markeaton Park's Mundy Play centre.
For junior aged children there are climbing frames, open swings, roundabouts, larger slides, and rope climbing equipment with ariel runways.
For older children we have wheeled sports facilities, for roller skating, skateboards and bmxing, sports walls, ball courts and youth shelters. Suggested parks for this equipment are: Alvaston Park, Mickleover (Onslow Road), Markeaton Park, Sunnyhill Recreation Ground and Osmaston Park.
We have the Mundy Play area situated in Markeaton Park. This was developed from land given to city for this expressed use by the Mundy family. Please visit the Mundy play centre to see all that it offers.
Our parks have much more to offer than just play equipment and areas. Many of our parks have;
There is also, of course, acres of open space to enjoy.
