In 1903 Mrs Mundy donated five acres of the Markeaton Estate for use as a recreational ground. In 1924 she donated seven additional acres and the origins of what is now the play centre were founded. The then called the Mundy playing field gained another six acres off Kedleston Road which was made into the paddling pool. Today the play centre has become an excellent and well used facility; it is particularly popular in summer months due to the amount it has to offer younger families. The play centre is situated in the much larger area of Markeaton Park. There is also the Mundy Pleasure Ground situated not far from Markeaton Park.
