Disability Sport in Derby - Derby Sportsability Club
Derby Sportsability Club provides sporting opportunities for disabled children and young people right across the city aged between seven and 16 years every Thursday between 3.30pm and 4.45pm.
The club offers a structured coaching programme and the chance to develop skills in the three key sporting areas of football, trampolining and athletics. Additional opportunities are available to participate in team activities such as boccia and new age curling. The current term's activity is football coaching and training led by Derby County Football in the Community.
The sessions are held at Shaftesbury Sports Centre, Shaftesbury Street, Derby, DE23 8NA. Each session costs £1.50 a person.
Staff from Shaftesbury Sports Centre, Derby City Council’s Sport and Leisure team, Derby City School Sports Partnership and the Royal School for the Deaf helped set up the club. It started in September after funding was secured to cover initial set up and running costs with the long term aim being for the club to become totally self funded.
