Welcome to Sport and Leisure – Funding Zone!

My name is Louise Williams and I am the Funding Officer for Sport and Leisure.

The Sport and Leisure Funding Zone aims to provide you with information and advice about the external funding opportunities you can access for the community or sports activities or to develop your club or community group.  The Zone also includes factsheets and other information that you may find useful for managing and running your community sports club or community association.

Derbyshire Talented Athlete Fund

The Derbyshire Talented Athlete Fund gives financial support to Derbyshire’s top sporting performers to help them with their training needs or equipment. Derby City Council is a sponsor of the Derbyshire Talented Athlete Fund programme for 2009.  Here are Derby's Talented Athletes from 2009:

  • Rema Lascelles – Basketball
  • Joshua Ward-Hibbert - Basketball
  • Gill Watson - Biathlon
  • Talia Anthony - Boxing
  • Jodie Brierley - Boxing
  • Daniel Longhurst - Equestrian
  • Demi Watkins - Gymnastics
  • Charlotte Caunt - Gymnastics
  • Chloe Astle - Inline Speedskating
  • Lydia Bunn - Inline Speedskating

The Derbyshire Talented Athlete Fund is now in its third year and last year awarded bursaries of £300 each to 108 athletes to help them meet training related costs such as travel, coaching or equipment.

The Fund is financially supported by all the local authorities in Derbyshire including Derby City Council as well as a number of local businesses and organisations, all of which are keen to back local sporting talent.

Sports Unlimited

Sport Unlimited is a three year funded programme and is an integral part of this investment. It aims to provide a range of attractive and sustainable opportunities in sporting activities for young people.

Here is a case study of a project delivered this year. The Rolls Royce Cricket Club delivered a programme of cricket taster sessions to children and young people in Normanton and Peartree and Sport Unlimited paid for qualified coaches and the hire of facilities.
