V Project

V Project is for young people that currently volunteer or would like to volunteer in sport and physical activity.

V Project aims to give young people aged 14 to 24 years the support and training for them to get involved, stay involved and make a positive contribution to Getting Derby Active through volunteering.

Young people can be involved in a variety of roles including...

  • Sports Leader
  • Sports Coach
  • Official
  • Fundraiser
  • Event Organiser.

Support available to young people will include:

  • assistance in finding a suitable place to volunteer
  • 50% discount and free training opportunities to enhance their skills
  • mentoring from experienced coaches, officials, committee members
  • access to county wide volunteering and training opportunities.

Volunteering in sport and physical activity can benefit young people in a number of ways, including:

  • building confidence and self-esteem
  • an opportunity to learn new skills and practice existing ones
  • a chance to try new activities
  • a great way to meet new people and make new friends
  • a good way to gain experience and qualifications for the future
  • improve job prospects
  • the satisfaction of making a difference to other people.

Case study

Faye Stone is a volunteer with Hooked Extreme Sports Club, which is based in Derby. Faye helps organise activities, leads sessions, a member of the committee and acts as a student representative. Faye is gaining good experience for her later life and sees volunteering as an excellent way to develop foundations for her future career plans.
