The next series of the popular BBC programme, Strictly Come Dancing is set to start and people are invited to share the experience by learning ballroom, salsa, belly dancing and bhangra moves at Littleover Community School’s Sport and Fitness Centre on Pastures Hill.
Designed to cater for all dance abilities, the 10 and 12-week courses will start at the end of September.
Bhangra is a lively Indian dance style and is suitable for ages 14 upwards. A free taster class takes place on Saturday 27 September from 11.30am to 12.30pm and the course starts at the same time on Saturday 4 October 2008.
Salsa gets underway on Monday 29 September 2008 with a beginners’ class from 7pm to 8pm and an intermediate session from 8pm to 9pm.
Ballroom novices can learn how to quickstep, waltz, rhumba, slow rhythm and cha-cha from 8.30pm to 10pm on Tuesdays, starting 7 October. Dancers with a bit of know-how can develop their technique at Wednesday’s improver’s course at the same time from 8 October 2008.
Belly dancing is great for toning tummy muscles and fans of this Middle East inspired dance can attend a class for all levels from Saturday 4 October at 10.30 to 11.30am.
Couples and individuals can take part at a cost of £50 for each person for the 12-week courses. Ballroom continues for 10 weeks and costs £45 each person. People can also choose to pay £5 each session or £3.50 for under 16s (bhangra only).
The school runs other dance and fitness classes, some suitable for children aged from 12 years.
