What is a Passport to Leisure?
A Passport to Leisure is an annual leisure card that gives you reduced prices for activities at Derby City Council sports centres. There are three types of Passport to Leisure card...
1) Adult Passport to Leisure £11.90 a year...
- For individual adults, aged 16 years and over.
2) Concessionary Passport to Leisure £6.05 a year...
- Juniors under 16-years-old (please bring proof of age)
- Over 60s (please bring bus pass or birth certificate).
- Registered disabled people (please bring a letter confirming disability and proof of address).
- Full-time students (please bring valid NUS card or other proof of full time status).
- Unemployed or on New Deal (please bring current Jobseeker's Allowance award letter dated within two months of your Passport application or current bank statement as proof of payment).
3) Family Passport to Leisure £23.80 a year...
- For families, with up to two adults and a maximum of five family members on one card (all children must be under 16 years)
An Adult, Concessionary or Family Passport to Leisure entitles you to:
- reduced prices for a range of activities at Council sports centres - for details of the sports centres and activities included in the scheme jump to Passport to Leisure sports centre activities.
- seven day advanced booking in person or by telephone and you don't have to play until you play
- no deposit payable for equipment hire.
What is a Recreation Passport to Leisure?
A Recreation Passport to Leisure gives you further discounts at our sports centres including some free activities. It costs £6.05 a year.
You can apply for a Recreation Passport to Leisure if you are a Derby resident and are:
- over 18 and on Income Support (please bring current award letter dated within twelve months)
- over 18 and on Job Seeker's Allowance (please bring current award letter dated within two months)
- an unemployed school leaver between 16 and 18 years old (please bring your document from Connexions)
- a registered disabled person, receiving Disability Living Allowance, Severe Disability Living Allowance, Incapacity Benefit or Care Allowance (please bring current award letter)
- a volunteer through the European Volunteer Service (please bring a letter confirming you are on the EVS scheme)
- an unemployed asylum seeker (please bring your official identification from the Home Office)
- a foster carer who works for Derby City Council (please contact Sport and Leisure on 01332 641234)
- receiving Guaranteed Pensions Credit (please bring a current award letter dated within 12 months of your Passport application).
A Recreation Passport to Leisure costs £6.05 a year and entitles you to:
- free admission to certain sports facilities from 9am to 4pm weekdays and all day at weekends and on Bank Holidays - for details of the activities included in the scheme jump to Recreation Passport to Leisure activities (not available at Derby College Sports Centre during term times)
- free equipment hire during off-peak hours
- concessionary Passport to Leisure charges for activities that are not free during off peak times
- concessionary Passport to Leisure charges for activites during peak times
- seven day advanced booking for courts, courses and sessions during peak times
How to apply for a Passport to Leisure or a Recreation Passport to Leisure
Step 1: Complete the application form. You can pick up a copy from your local sports centre or call Sport and Leisure on 01332 641235 and we will post you a form.
Step 2: If you are applying for a Concessionary Passport to Leisure or a Recreation Passport to Leisure you need to get the right identification or proof of benefit (shown in brackets).
Step 3: Take the completed application form, the right identification and proof of benefit if necessary and your payment to any of these sports centres...

Passport to Leisure sports centre activities
A Passport to Leisure entitles you to reduced prices on the following activities at Council sports centres. For activity times and prices please see the individual centre Activity Guides. The Activity Guides are available from each sports centre or you can download a copy from each sports centre web page.
All centres offer reduced children's birthday parties for Concessionary Junior Passport to Leisure.
Derby College Sports Centre - Badminton, table tennis and short tennis (casual use)
Moorways Sports Centre - gym sessions, workout classes, indoor cycling, court activities (badminton, squash, table tennis, short tennis, bowls - casual use), Active Living activities
Moorways Swimming Pool - casual swimming sessions, Aqua Fit and seleted Learn to Swim courses.
Queen's Leisure Centre - gym sessions, workout classes, court activities (squash, racketball and table tennis - casual use), casual swimming, Aqua Fit and Aqua Natal classes and Active Living activities.
Shaftesbury Sports Centre - gym sessions, workout classes, Active Living sessions, sports hall activities (badminton, table tennis, short tennis and bowls - casual use) and basketball (casual use).
Springwood Leisure Centre - gym sessions, workout classes, outdoor courts (casual use), sports hall activities (badminton, table tennis, short tennis, squash, racketball and short may bowls - casual use), Women's Activity Morning and Active Living activities.
Recreation Passport to Leisure free activities
You can take part in the activities listed below, subject to availability, free of charge at the following times...
- 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, all day at the weekends and Bank Holidays, excluding Christmas closure dates.
- Free activities at Derby College Sports Centre are not available during the College term time and on all Bank Holidays.
You must show your Recreation Passport to Leisure card when you arrive to take part in an activity to get free use. If you are taking part in an activity with other people, such as badminton or squash, all players must have valid Recreation Passport to Leisure cards to get free use. If all players have not got valid cards, the concessionary Passport to Leisure price will be charged for all players.
- Derby College Sports Centre: Badminton, basketball, table tennis
- Moorways Sports Centre: Badminton, bowls, squash, racketball, table tennis
- Moorways Swimming Pool: Swimming
- Queen's Leisure Centre: Squash, racketball, swimming, table tennis
- Shaftesbury Sports Centre: Badminton, basketball, table tennis
- Springwood Leisure Centre: Badminton, short tennis, squash, racketball, table tennis
Parks' free and reduced rate activities with a Recreation Passport to Leisure
You can take part in the activities list below, subject to availability, free of charge at the times listed. You must show your Recreation Passport to Leisure card when you arrive to take part in an activity to get free use.
- Fishing: Markeaton Park Lake, Allestree Park Lake, Bass Recreation Ground, Darley Abbey. 12noon to 5pm Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays.
- Tennis: Alvaston, Chaddesden, Darley Fields, King George V, Normanton and Markeaton Parks. 9am to 12noon and 2pm to 5pm Monday to Friday, exlcuding Bank Holidays. Half hour sessions.
- Children's boats: 15 minute session at Mundy Play Centre. 10.30am to 12 noon Monday to Friday, exlcuding Bank Holidays
- Crazy Golf: one round at Munday Play Centre. 10.30am to 12 noon Monday to Friday, exlcuding Bank Holidays.
- Allestree Park and Sinfin Golf Courses: Recreation Passport to Leisure holders are entitled to concessionary rates on 9am to 3pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 9am to 12noon Wednesday.
