Parents and guardians are urged to get their children involved in an exciting programme of summer holiday activities between 28 July and 29 August as Derby City Council’s b-active Summer Xplosion hits Queen’s Leisure Centre, Cathedral Road, Derby.
Queen’s Leisure Centre is running the following activities in week three of the summer holidays:
• Intensive Learn to Swim courses from 11 to 15 August from 9am to 11am or 4pm to 6pm. They are suitable for children aged four years and over. People should book in advance.
• Inflatable Fun Sessions from 11 to 15 August from 1.45pm to 2.45pm for ages eight to 15 years. There is no need to book.
• Family swim sessions between 11 and 15 August from 1.30pm to 3pm. They are suitable for children under eight years old accompanied by a parent or carer. There is no need to book.
• Adult and Toddler sessions from 11 to 15 August from 12 noon to 1.15pm. They are suitable for adults with children under five years of age. There is no need to book.
• A Women and Toddler swim session on 14 August from 12.15pm to 1.15pm, aimed at women with children under five years of age. There is no need to book.
• Swim with the City of Derby Swimming Club every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 7pm and every Sunday from 1pm to 2pm between 28 July and 29 August. Sessions are suitable for swimmers aged seven to 13 years who have attained Learn to Swim Level 7 or over and are able to swim a minimum of 400metres with basic ability in three of the four swimming strokes. • A Taekwondo session on 13 August from 4.30pm to 5.30pm for children and young people aged eight years and over. Participants can turn up on the day but places need to be booked in advance to guarantee one.
• Streetdance sessions on 15 August from 1.30pm to 2.30pm for ages eight to 13 years. People should book in advance.
• Cheerleading sessions on 13 August from 2pm to 2.45pm for ages five to nine years and 3pm to 4pm for ages 10 to 15 years. People should book in advance.
• Children can get the b-active buzz on 15 August from 11.30am to 2.30pm for ages 11 to 15 years. It is a great chance to have a go on Wii Fit, Wii Sports and to visit the b-active diary room and tell the b-active team what activities a user likes doing. Participants can turn up on the day but places need to be booked in advance to guarantee one.
• Monkey and Meercat’s Holiday Club for under-eights, using simple equipment for under-fours and parents to take part in together, on 11 August from 12 noon to 1pm.
• Structured fun, games and fundamental skills led by a coach for four to six year olds on 13 August from 11am to 12 noon. Participants can turn up on the day but booking is recommended to guarantee a place.
• Structured fun, games and fundamental skills led by a coach for six to eight year olds on 15 August from 10am to 11am. Participants can turn up on the day but booking is recommended to guarantee a place.
