Animal Welfare

The Public Health Team based within the Environmental Health and Trading Standards Division deals with a number of animal welfare issues.

As well as the Dog Warden Service, the team inspects and issues licences for:

  • Pet Shops
  • Animal Boarding Establishments (Dog Kennels and Catteries)
  • Horse Riding Establishments
  • Dog Breeding Establishments (This only applies to premises used for dog breeding as a business)
  • The Keeping of Dangerous Wild Animals

We can also investigate issues relating to animal cruelty under new powers brought in by the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

For details of the licensing requirements and fees please contact Environmental Health and Trading Standards on 01332 716332 or e-mail environmental.services@derby.gov.uk
