Derby Compact

What is the Compact?

The Derby Compact is a commitment to open, transparent and fair working practices by statutory and voluntary and community sector partners. Its aim is to improve relationships, communication, participation and services to create a better Derby.

The Derby Compact was first developed in partnership by Derby City Council and the local Voluntary and Community Sector, in 2001. It was produced following a national Compact between Government and the voluntary sector in 1998, when councils were urged to develop local agreements.

What is Compact Week?

Compact Week takes place in November each year and provides an opportunity to promote awareness and understanding of the Compact.

During Compact Week 2008, the Derby Compact was awarded the Local Compact of the Year Award at a ceremony in London, hosted by the Commissioner for the Compact, Sir Bert Massie.

Congratulations to all our voluntary and statutory sector partners on this achievement, which demonstrates our commitment to work together to benefit the local community.

A new Compact for Derby

The Derby Compact has been revised and updated, to align it with Derby City Partnership structures and to strengthen the implementation of Compact principles across the whole statutory sector and the voluntary and community sector. This should help to underpin better Compact compliance and implementation across the city.

The updated version of the Compact went out for consultation to ensure that the full range of views from both statutory sector and voluntary and community sector partners were sought and incorporated into the new Derby Compact Agreement. The new Compact Agreement can be down loaded below:
