Sport Unlimited Funding for 2010/11
The Council is now accepting applications from organisations to deliver Sport Unlimited activities to children and young people aged 11 to 19 years old in Derby from November 2010 to March 2011. These children must be 'semi sporty', taking part in two to three hours of sport a week and need additional support and encouragement to reach the recommended five hours a week.
You will need to complete a project application form and send it back to the External Funding Officer in Leisure and Cultural Development. Please read the guidance notes before you write your application for this funding. Contact information can be found at the bottom of this page.
The closing date for sending back a completed application form is Monday 20 September 2010.
About Sport Unlimited
In July 2007, the Prime Minister announced they were going to invest an extra £100 million (2008 to 2011) into the National School Sport Strategy to give every young person aged 5- to 19-years-old the chance to do five hours of sport a week.
Sport Unlimited is an integral part of this investment...
- It's a three year funded programme.
- It focuses on 'semi sporty' people - people who are taking part in only two to three hours of sport a week.
- It aims to encourage young people to take part in an extra two to three hours of sport a week to reach the recommended five hours.
- It also aims to bring about a behaviour change to encourage 'semi sporty' young people to take part in regular sport activities out of school and in the community.
- It aims to provide a range of opportunities in sporting activities for young people.
- These activities must be attractive and sustainable.
Nationally, the programme aims to target 900,000 young people aged 5- to 19-years-old to take up an additional two to three hours sport activity each week.
The programme will be measured against the four Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- KPI 1 Engage – provide a run of term time weekly sessions (at least eight weeks, average 10 weeks duration)
- KPI 2 Retain – children and young people to attend 60% of a maximum of 10 sessions (minimum of 8 sessions)
- KPI 3 Sustain and grow – children and young people need to continue to take part regularly after the initial weekly sessions
- KPI 4 Excel – signposting children to 'performance pathways'.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport appointed County Sports Partnerships to co-ordinate the development of the Sport Unlimited – extending activities work at a county level. Derbyshire Sport, the County Sports Partnership, is working in partnership with all district councils and Derby City Council to deliver the Sport Unlimited programme in the county.
Derby's Sport Unlimited programme
Derby was allocated £189,618 for three years from April 2008 to March 2011. It has funded a number of organisations to deliver projects in the city, targeting young people from 11- to 19-years-old who are considered to be 'semi-sporty.'
Derby has a target of engaging 7,519 young people and 5,462 young people in new sport and physical activity opportunities. So far, 3,302 young people have been engaged in Sport Unlimited projects and 2,300 were retained in the 10-week programme.
