What do you want Derby to be?

A place where people are full of confidence and have the chance to reach their goals?

Yes? Well be inspiring and take up Derby's 2012 Challenge!

Derby City Partnership Board is asking individuals, communities and organisations in Derby to set themselves a challenge and make a pledge that will make a difference in Derby.

Inspired by the enthusiasm and excitement on the run up to London 2012, Derby's unique 2012 Challenge has been launched to turn inspiration into action. We'd like you to make a pledge that links to 2012. No matter what you come up with make sure it inspires you and others and do your bit in making a difference in Derby.

But how will we know whether we have made a difference? We believe that being inspiring can develop our skills or help us getting a job or a better job. It could also get us to lead more positive and healthy lives and to make a real difference to our sense of community. So we'll be measuring all these things between now and 2012 to reflect the impact of everybody’s efforts.

If you love Derby and are passionate about motivating and encouraging both yourself and others to achieve their potential – then you need to make a pledge today!

How can I help?

The sky’s the limit for your ideas, but here are a few to inspire you...

  • I am going to work with my team to involve young people in something creative
  • I promise to provide my skills to give 12 mentoring sessions to a teenager
  • I will get the other local businesses together and we will go into the local schools and inspire young people about running their own business
  • I will read 20 library books over the next 12 months instead of buying them
  • In the next 12 months, my business is going to set up a Dragon’s Den for young people to present their business ideas
  • My company pledges to organise a ‘Derby’s got talent’ contest for 2012
  • We are going to join in Sir Christopher Ball’s walk around the perimeter of Derby
  • My organisation will help the Derby City Council Chief Executive’s ‘You’re hired’ pledge by organising a task for the participants
  • Our business will organise a work experience placement for someone with a disability or who is unemployed
  • We are going to raise £2,012 for something we are passionate about
  • With my neighbours I am going to spend 12 hours cleaning up our local stretch of river
