Concessionary Passes

National Concessionary PassDerby City Council provides a variety of concessionary passes to provide cheaper public transport. There are Gold Cards, B-Line cards and New Deal passes available.  

Gold Card National Concessionary Pass

The Gold Card, National Concessionary pass, is available to residents of Derby that are aged 60 or over. It is also available to some disabled residents.

  • The cards allow residents to use local buses throughout England for free!
  • The card also allows residents to half fare rail travel within Derbyshire. 
  • Local bus services are free Monday to Friday from 9.30am until 11pm and free all day Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays.

The Gold Card, National Concessionary Pass, is not valid on the services below after midnight, Friday and Saturday due to being a premium rate fare:

  • Mickleover Blue (MB)
  • Spondon Flyer Blue
  • trentbarton’s 9.2, 6.3 and H1
  • llkeston Flyer
  • Red Arrow Nottingham to/from Derby
  • Heatherton Harlequin (HQ)
  • X38 Derby - Burton.

Disabled Gold Card national Concessionary Pass

Below is a list that shows who maybe eligable for a disabled gold card concessionary pass:

  • I am blind or partially sighted
  • I am profoundly or severely deaf
  • I am without speech
  • I have a disability, or have suffered an injury, which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on my ability to walk
  • I am without arms or have long-term loss of the use of both arms
  • I have a learning disability
  • I have been refused or had my driving licence revoked on medical grounds or I have a disability which means I would automatically be refused a driving licence if I applied. Those who are currently barred from holding a licence include people with certain types of epilepsy, severe mental disorder, liability to sudden attacks of giddiness or fainting.
     

How to apply

To apply for a Gold Card you can: 

  • visit the Council House with both proof of your age and proof that you live in Derby. For example, a birth certificate and a utility bill with your name and address on.
  • to request an application form either contact us, fill out the contact form below or download a copy from the publications and information web page. These must be completed and returned; please include photocopies of the proof documents the application form requests.

After this has been approved, a card will be ordered and posted out to you within 2-3 weeks. If you live outside of the city then you will need to apply to your district/county council.

What if I’ve lost my Gold Card?

If you’ve lost your Gold Card please contact us, or fill out the contact form below and we will be able to order you another card. Unfortunately, a £5 charge will apply. If you live within Derbyshire then please telephone 0845 6 058 058.
