Derby. A city for all ages

Workplace Health and Safety, Licensing and Infectious Disease Control

The aim of the workplace health and safety team is to ensure the health & safety and welfare of those working in or visiting the premises for which we have statutory responsibility for in the City of Derby. Inspections are usually undertaken as part of a routine inspection programme. Visits are also made after some accidents or when complaints of dangerous or unhealthy conditions are reported to us. Our main concern is that employers have made a satisfactory assessment of the risks involved in the operation of their business and that they are controlling those risks. We prefer to use advice to get results, but if employers do not respond we can serve legal notices and if necessary, prosecute. This section also deals with general complaints concerning commercial non-food premises within the City of Derby.

Entertainment Licensing

The Entertainment Licensing team deals with the administration, liaison and enforcement of licences, registrations and permits relating to entertainment. The aims of the team are to ensure that any controls or conditions set are complied with in the interests of public safety.

Infectious Disease Control

The Infectious Disease Control team deals with the investigation of all statutory notifiable cases of infectious diseases and provides information and advice on infectious diseases.

Public health promotion initiatives are undertaken from time to time, usually in partnership with other statutory bodies, council departments or local communities. This is in line with the Government’s Public Health Agenda and any local Health Improvement Programmes.
