Access for disabled people

Getting in and out, and around shops and other public buildings can be difficult for disabled people, if they are not accessible. Our latest Derby Access Guide for Disabled People  highlights the access information you may need to know before you visit somewhere. You can get a hard copies from Derby Direct at The Council House, Corporation Street, Derby DE1 2FS.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission gives information about the access rights of disabled people under the Equality Act. It also helps and advises businesses providing services to the public to stay within the law.

You can also get the national Radar key that opens disabled people’s toilets using the scheme around the country from our reception desk at the Council House. The key is free to Derby residents, but there is a charge for a second key if you lose it.

We were very pleased to receive the CredAbility plaque from Nimbus for our access for disabled people at the Council House. To learn more take a look at our Council House Access Guide.
