The Registration service has moved from Royal Oak House to the Council House. Wedding, naming and vow renewal ceremonies will continue to be held at Royal Oak house but all other services will now be at the Council House
The Marriage Act 1994 permits civil marriages to take place at locations other than registration offices as long as they have been authorised by your local councils.
To be legally able to marry you must attend the Register Office where you live to give notice of your marriage. In a Register Office, approved venue or non-conformist Church, each person must give notice of intention to marry to the Superintendent Registrar in the district in which he/she resides. This costs £35.00 each.
See the table below for Marriage venues within the Derby City boundaries where Derby Register Office staff can conduct marriage ceremonies. Also below are our current registration service fees.
To give notice of your marriage you will need to arrange an appointment to visit the Council House. You can do this by calling us between 9:00am – 3:00pm.
Please note that when you attend your appointment you will need to pay by debit or credit card as we only accept cash in certain circumstances.
Ceremony lengths depend but on average last around 30 minutes.
One bridal car is allowed to park outside the front door on the day. There is also space for one 'Blue Badge' holder's car to park to the rear of the building.
Other guests will need to park using the public car parks - the nearest is in the Assembly Rooms which is only two minutes' walk away.
