Voices in Action Youth Forum

Any young person living in Derby aged 11 to 19 can join the Youth Forum, Voices in Action. The group meets on a monthly basis and each year they look in-depth at three issues relating to young people in the city, such as youth unemployment, bullying or the perception of young people.

Other ways to get involved

All young people living in Derby can also:

  • take part in other consultation activities  
  • attend subject specific meetings on key topics
  • be involved in managing and running consultation.

Derby 50+ Forum

This Forum aims to inform and empower older people living in Derby. It’s part of a national movement of older people’s forums, is independent of the Council and has an elected management committee. Any resident in Derby over the age of 50 can join the Forum who:

  • attend four meetings a year
  • take part in consultation activities
  • receive regular mailings keeping them informed
  • attend subject specific meetings on key topics.

The Forum is also open to all voluntary and community organisations in Derby that have older people as members or have an interest in older people. It aims to bring these groups together to strengthen the voice of older people and help influence issues in Derby.

Future 50+ Forum meeting dates are:

  • Thursday 19th April 2012
  • Thursday 5th July 2012

Diversity Forums

We have three diversity forums that provide us with opportunities to check the quality of our consultation with diverse communities. Each Forum:

  • provides expert advice from organisations who work closely with our diverse communities
  • acts as a critical friend when the Council is developing new policies or services
  • supports equality impact assessment work
  • shares information, experience and expertise with each other
  • works on two or three key issues of importance to their community in ‘task and finish’ groups
  • works with the other forums at an annual meeting to meet with the Council's Leadership Team and identify key priorities for the coming year.

Disabled People’s Diversity Forum

This Forum meets four times a year and represents groups who work with disabled people.

Future dates for Disabled People's Diversity Forum meetings are:

  • Thursday 14th June 2012

Meetings are from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Minority Communities Diversity Forum

This Forum meets four times a year and represents groups who work with Black and Minority Ethnic Communities.

Gender and Sexuality Diversity Forum

This Forum meets twice a year and represents groups who work with men, woman, gay, lesbian and transgendered people.
